17V744 · Trailer Hitches
Reported to the register 21/11/2017
What is wrong: Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2017 CX-5 vehicles equipped with an accessory trailer hitch wiring harness. This harness may be routed such that there is insufficient clearance between the harness and the exhaust muffler, allowing the wiring harness to contact the muffler.
The risk: Contact with the muffler may damage the trailer wiring harness, potentially resulting in the trailer lighting being inoperative, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix: Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will reroute the trailer hitch harness away from the muffler, replacing the harness if it is damaged, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin January 20, 2018. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 1617K.
What this page can and cannot tell you
These are the campaigns the American register (NHTSA) links to this model and year: the ones that may cover the car. Whether one specific car is included, and whether its repair was already carried out, only the manufacturer or the authority's own VIN lookup can confirm. A recall repair is free at an authorised dealer.
Where we hold the notice, the link goes to our own page, which keeps every version of the wording — including any the manufacturer rewrote after publication. Where we do not, the link goes to the authority.
Confirm this exact car by VIN: here, or at NHTSA, DVSA, Transport Canada.
